This Saturday, March 20th, is the first day of spring! While in some ways it seems like we have been in a year-long winter, your garden knows differently. Now is a great time to get to work in your yard so you will be ready for all those summer barbeques.
Here are your steps:
Assess: We aren’t quite back to our pre-Covid lifestyles so you may be spending more time than usual in your garden. Do you have neighbors or anything else unsightly that you want to block out? Now might be the time to plant a bamboo or other type of greenery hedge. Could your patio use some beautiful plants in containers? Have you always dreamed of having a living wall? Try to visualize how you want to live in your yard then make it happen!
Plant: Is this the year to plant a vegetable garden? You can produce edible crops in a container as small as a wine barrel. Start small or go big with raised beds. Do you need to add some plants to freshen things up? How about color? Try to look at your yard through fresh eyes and see what needs to be done.
Do the dirty work: Now is the time to prune, clean out, and fertilize. Check your irrigation timers since the weather is a bit erratic. Clean your patio furniture. You will be happy you did when the weather warms up.
